ECG Test in Amravati: What It Shows and How It Is Done
An ECG (electrocardiogram, also called EKG) records the heart's electrical activity. It is quick, painless and one of the first tests when you have chest pain, palpitations or breathlessness.
How it is done
Small sticky electrodes are placed on your chest, arms and legs, and a machine records the trace. It takes a few minutes. You lie still. There is no pain and no radiation.
What it can show
- Heart rhythm problems
- Signs of a current or past heart attack
- Strain on the heart
- Effects of some medicines or salt imbalances
Limits
A normal ECG does not rule out every heart problem, especially if symptoms come and go. The doctor may add an echo, TMT or other tests. Learn the difference in ECG, echo and TMT.
