ECG, Echo and TMT: Which Heart Test Do You Need?
Different heart tests answer different questions. Your doctor chooses the test that fits your symptoms.
ECG
- Records the heart's electrical activity in a minute
- Shows rhythm problems and signs of a heart attack
Echo (echocardiography)
- An ultrasound of the heart
- Shows pumping strength, valves and muscle thickness
TMT (stress test)
- ECG recorded while you walk on a treadmill
- Shows whether effort brings on reduced blood flow
Next step
- If these tests suggest a blockage, angiography may be advised
