Heart Rhythm Problems (Arrhythmia) in Amravati: Evaluation and Next Steps

By Dr. Pavan Agrawal, Interventional Cardiologist, Amravati · Updated · 2 min read

An arrhythmia is an abnormal heartbeat: too fast, too slow or irregular. Evaluation starts with your symptoms and an ECG, and the cardiologist then decides on the next steps.

Types people hear about

  • Atrial fibrillation: an irregular, often fast heartbeat
  • Extra beats (ectopics): usually harmless
  • Slow heart rate (bradycardia)
  • Fast rhythms (tachycardia)

Symptoms

Palpitations, dizziness, fainting, breathlessness, tiredness or chest discomfort. Some people have no symptoms and it is found on an ECG.

Evaluation

History, examination, ECG, blood tests (including thyroid) and echo. Treatment may include medicines, treating the underlying cause and, for some rhythm problems, specialised procedures or devices. If a procedure outside the scope of the hospital is needed, the cardiologist will explain and guide you.
