When Chest Pain Needs an Emergency Visit
Not all chest pain is from the heart, but heart-related chest pain should never be ignored. Knowing the difference can save time.
Go to emergency now if
- Pressure, squeezing or heaviness in the chest lasting more than a few minutes
- Pain spreading to the arm, jaw, neck or back
- Sweating, nausea, breathlessness or dizziness with the pain
Less likely to be the heart (still get checked)
- Sharp pain that changes with breathing or position
- Pain you can point to with one finger
- Burning after meals
Remember
- Diabetics, women and older adults may have milder symptoms
- If unsure, treat it as an emergency: call 112 or 95116 13365
