Angioplasty in Amravati: What Patients Should Know
Angioplasty opens a narrowed or blocked heart artery using a tiny balloon, and usually a stent to keep it open.
When it is needed
- During a heart attack to restore blood flow
- For significant blockages causing chest pain
- When medicines alone are not enough
How it is done
- A catheter is passed through the wrist or groin to the blockage
- A balloon widens the artery and a stent is placed
- Local anaesthesia is used and most patients go home in a few days
After angioplasty
- Take antiplatelet tablets exactly as advised and never stop them on your own
- Control blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol
- Quit tobacco, eat healthy and walk daily
- Attend follow-up visits
